4 Mistakes Not to Make When Packing for Your Office Move to Dallas

Office Moving - Office RelocationBoxing up your office seems like an easy task, doesn't it? Especially if you are a decently uncluttered person, it appears like all you'd have to do is tuck your files in one box, your computer and peripherals in another, load up your office furniture, and you’re done. Unfortunately, moving your office from point A to point B is many times a lot harder than we tend to imagine it is. Luckily, avoiding these frequent mistakes when it is time to pack up your office can save you a lot of anxiety when moving to Dallas.

Mistake #1: Not Enough Organization

No matter if you are doing a do-it-yourself move or have employed a moving company to assist, the worst thing you can do when it is go time is to go into it without being appropriately prepared. You may think you're organized because you wrote a one word item detail on the outside of the box, but what you need to do is work out what you need to pack and in what order you're going to pack it. After that, you need to distinctly label what is is going into which box. Be aware that when you get your boxes loaded up, moved, and unloaded at their new business location, you are going to forget which box holds your keyboard, and which one holds your business files in it. So, write a list on every box of what's in it to avert digging, stress, and general hysteria while you get your new office set up.

Mistake #2: Burying Things You Really Need

If you have ever moved your residence, you most likely be familiar with that notion of finding the sheets you have not needed in 10 years amid unpacking, but not being able to uncover the shampoo and fresh clothes you require for your morning routine. An office move can have a similar issue. That is the reason that you should pack up the things you aren't going to need immediately (such as your tax records from five years ago), and make sure they are loaded on the truck first. The items you may need promptly (your desk, your computer, your printer, etc.) should all be packed up last so they're the first items you take off the truck. This process helps negate your downtime, and assists you to get right back on the job once you reach your destination.

Mistake #3: Not Using a Timeline or a Checklist

Moving an office to Dallas is a task that has a tendency to happen incrementally, which is why it's vital to have the correct tools to track your progress. You should have a timeline written out to plan how long it will take to box up your things, the amount of time it will consume to move it, how long it should take to unpack, and then how long it will take to finish setting up. The timeline needs to have some space in it for setbacks, and it needs to be supplemented with a checklist so you can cross off tasks as they're completed. If you plan to hire a professional moving company, they should help you with this task. Playing it by ear is not a very good alternative for an office move.

Mistake #4: Bringing Stuff You Don't Need to Dallas

Moving your office is a chance to begin again, and to put your best foot forward. However, a lot of people wind up just taking everything with them, no matter if they really need it. That is why, prior to thinking about packing, you should sift through every item in your office and think about if it needs to come to the new location. That broken shredder that you already bought a new one and were storing in case you could get it fixed? Don't muddle up your new office with it. The box of old, but still working, computer mice you hung onto in the event of an I.T. issue? Well, if they are several years old, they are probably outdated. That pack of musty paper that does not fit anyone's printer? Recycle it or hand it to an employee for their kids to scribble on. The more things you can dispose of (including digitizing old records so the paper copies are obsolete) the easier your move will be.
