4 Mistakes Not to Make When Packing for Your Office Move to Dallas

Office Moving - Office RelocationBoxing up your office appears to be an easy job, doesn't it? Especially if you are somewhat orderly worker, it looks like all you would need to do is place your documents in a box, your computer, monitor and mouse in another, load up the furniture, and away you go. However, moving your office from point A to point B is many times a lot more difficult than we would like to imagine it is. Fortunately, avoiding these frequent errors when it is time to box up your office can save you a lot of stress when moving to Dallas.

Mistake #1: A Lack of Organization

No matter if you are moving yourself or have hired a moving company to help, the worst thing you can do when it's time to pack up is to go into it without taking a moment to get properly organized. You might believe you're ready because you wrote a single item designation on the outside of the box, but what you should do is prepare in advance what you are going to pack and in what order you are going to pack it. Next, you must clearly label what is is going into which box. Realistically, when you have your boxes loaded up, transported, and unloaded at their new office, you're not going to remember which box holds your power cords, and which one has your pens in it. So, make a list on every box of what's in it to prevent digging, disorientation, and mass hysteria while you get unpacked.

Mistake #2: Burying Things You Really Need

If you have ever moved your house, you probably know that feeling of unboxing the dishes you haven't used in 10 years amid unpacking, but not being able to uncover the shampoo and fresh clothes you require for your morning routine. An office move can contain a similar complication. That's why you should pack up the things you aren't going to need urgently (such as your tax records from six years ago), and make sure they are placed on the moving truck first. The items you are going to need promptly (your desk, your computer, your printer, etc.) should all be packed up last so they're the first boxes you unload off the truck. This process helps negate your work interruption, and helps you get right back on task once you get to your destination.

Mistake #3: Not Using a Timeline or a Checklist

Moving an office to Dallas is something that has a tendency to happen accumulatively, which is why it's important to put in place the proper tools to understand your progress. You should have a timeline mapped out for how long it will take to box up your things, the amount of time it will consume to move it, the amount of time it will consume to unpack, and then how long it will take to get everything set back up. The timeline needs to have some space in it for delays, and it must be connected to a checklist so you can cross off tasks as they're finished. If you plan to hire a professional moving company, they should help you with this process. Winging it is not a very good alternative for an office move.

Mistake #4: Bringing Stuff You Don't Need to Dallas

Moving your office is an occasion to start fresh, and to put your best foot forward. However, lots of folks wind up just relocating everything with them, whether they really need it. That is why, before you even think about packing, you must sift through every item in your office and contemplate if it needs to relocate to the new location. That broken stapler that you already bought a new one and were keeping on hand in the event that you could get it rebuilt? Do not clutter up your new office with it. The pile of old, but still decent, cables you hung onto in the event of an I.T. issue? Well, if they are some years old, they are probably antiquated. That ream of musty paper that doesn't fit the copier? Recycle it or hand it to an employee for their kids to draw on. The more items you can get rid of (including digitizing old records so the physical copies are not needed) the smoother your move will be.
